Second Story Recovery CIC is committed to the safety and wellbeing of every person who walks through our doors — including members of our community, volunteers, and staff. This policy sets out our approach to safeguarding adults and children at risk.
We believe that every person has the right to live free from abuse, harm, and neglect. As a peer-led recovery community working with people who may be experiencing addiction, mental health difficulties, or homelessness, we recognise that some of the people we support may be vulnerable.
Second Story Recovery CIC is committed to:
Second Story Recovery CIC has a named Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) who is responsible for overseeing this policy, receiving and acting on concerns, and liaising with external agencies. Details of the current DSL are available on request.
Safeguarding means protecting people's health, wellbeing and human rights, and enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect. It applies to adults at risk as well as children and young people.
Abuse can take many forms, including physical, emotional, sexual, financial, and neglect. Exploitation — including county lines and cuckooing — is a particular risk in the communities we serve, and our volunteers are trained to recognise the signs.
Anyone — whether a community member, volunteer, or member of the public — can raise a safeguarding concern. You do not need to be certain that abuse is taking place to report a concern. If in doubt, raise it.
To raise a concern, please contact us directly or speak to any Second Story volunteer. In an emergency, always call 999. For non-emergency concerns about an adult at risk in Halton, contact Halton Borough Council's Adult Social Care team.
All Second Story volunteers and staff receive safeguarding awareness training before working with community members. Our Designated Safeguarding Lead receives enhanced safeguarding training on a regular basis.
This policy is reviewed annually and updated as required. It is available to any member of the public on request.
